Teaching Young People How To Show Up For Life.
Sport is one of the most powerful classrooms in the world. It teaches discipline, accountability, how to win with grace and lose with dignity — and how to be a teammate when things get hard.
Our life skills programming takes those lessons off the field and puts them to work. Financial literacy. Mental health awareness. Social media responsibility. NCAA rules and regulations. These aren't electives — they're essentials.
-
Financial literacy and personal responsibility
-
Mental health education and wellness
-
Anti-bullying and social media awareness
-

-

About The Program
Meeting People Where They Are. Building A Real Path Forward.
In 2022, the State of California recognized Athletes for Life as one of a select group of community-based nonprofits capable of delivering meaningful, evidence-based services to communities disproportionately impacted by violence and the long-term effects of drug policy — also known as the War on Drugs.
AFL now operates two distinct state-funded workforce and community reinvestment programs — one focused on violence intervention in Compton, and one focused on economic justice, health, and reentry support in San Bernardino County.
Both programs are built on the same foundation AFL has operated from for over 35 years: meet people where they are, build real relationships, and give them the tools to move forward.
