Educational Services
For the past 22 years, Athletes for Life™ has been an educational vendor for Adelanto, Compton, Rialto, San Bernardino City USDs, and Victor Valley Union High School Districts. We have provided educational services that meet the After School Education and Safety (ASES) Program, which is the result of the 2002 voter-approved initiative, Proposition 49. This proposition amended California Education Code (EC) Section 8482 to expand and rename the former Before and After School Learning and Safe Neighborhood Partnerships Program.
The ASES Program funds the establishment of local after-school education and enrichment programs. These programs are created through partnerships between schools and local community resources to provide literacy, academic enrichment, and safe, constructive alternatives for students in transitional kindergarten through ninth grade (K–9). Funding is designed to (1) maintain existing before and after-school program funding and (2) provide eligibility to all elementary and middle schools that submit quality applications throughout California.
In addition to mentoring and offering physical training sessions to more than 8,000 youth annually, an extensive list of professional athletes give their time and effort by participating in AFL speaking engagements and youth programs. Among our many accomplishments, throughout the past twenty-five years, we have been able to sponsor youth to attend the Michael Jordan Flight School, share a heartfelt message from celebrities like Jerome Bettis, Tim Brown, Tony Dorsett, Andre Reed, and Lou Gossett Jr.
Since 2005, more than 7,000 teens have attended our free Summer Life Skills Camp, the largest camp of its kind, in the US. While attending an AFL life skills camp, children learn these life skills through sports, fostering more positive choices later in life. Whether a child aspires to become an auto mechanic, an astronaut, or a professional athlete, he or she needs guidance, support, and the proper tools to make that dream come true.
The Program involves collaboration among parents, youth, and school representatives, governmental agencies, individuals from community-based organizations, and the private sector. With the unwavering support of many dedicated people, AFL has provided life-changing experiences for youth throughout the United States.
